Most circumference adjustments involve removing part of the waistband, removing part of the inner structure of the kilt, unpicking the 1st pleat and fringe edge of the outer apron, re-sewing the 1st pleat, re-shaping the apron, re-doing the tailor stitching of the canvas, splicing in new canvas / liner / waistband pieces as needed, moving the buckles as needed, and re-pressing the kilt. This process takes several hours.
The pricing for circumference adjustments for traditional hand-sewn kilts is variable, and typically runs in the $80-$150 range.
-
Flying Shuttle Kiltmaking’s Signature Custom Kilties are made with a growth pleat and generous fold-backs at apron edges, so our kilties are as adjustable as traditional hand-sewn kilts.
Pricing for circumference adjustments for our Signature Custom Kilties typically ranges from $40-$90.
Note that most other kilties are not made with growth pleats or generous apron fold-backs, limiting adjustability for growth. However, size reductions are usually possible.
